On 28th July, 2011, the grand finals of the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) Nigeria was held at the University of Lagos, Lagos Nigeria. GSEA is the premier global awards for students who run or own a business while attending high school, college or University. Established in 1998, it is organized yearly in Twenty five (25) Countries of the world by the Entrepreneur Organization (EO) headquarters in the United States of America.
Managed by a dynamic team led by Chidi Anekwe, GSEA started in Nigeria in 2010 with a pilot edition won by a student Entrepreneur – Olusola Amusan, the Principal Management Executive of the Olusola Amusan Company, a training, marketing and strategy development firm in Nigeria. This year, five young Nigerian Student entrepreneurs made it to the National finals: Bukola Jegede (University of Ibadan), Grace Opeyemioluwa Owoeye (University of Ibadan), Ademola Morebise (Federal University of Technology Akure), Tomiwa Ijaware (Federal University of Technology Akure), and Gbenga Larayetan (University of Benin). Each finalist pitched their businesses and entrepreneurial voyage before a panel of Judges including the Innaugural Regional Ambassador for Africa – Munyaradzi Shadaya from Zimbabwe, Rone Aires- EO member from South Africa and EO Global Chairman – Kevin Langley. Other notable guests at the conference and Competition were, Nigeria’s foremost life transformation Coach – Olakunle Soriyan; EO South Africa Representative – Vincent Molokwe (accompanied by Mr. Obed Madu); the National Coordinator “Make Poverty History Project” – Joseph Peters and the Executive Director for Leap Africa – Mosun Layode.
After much deliberations from the judges, the National Champion for GSEA Nigeria 2011 was announced. A student Entrepreneur from the University of Benin Nigeria, Gbenga Larayetan (Mr. Fish). He is to represent Nigeria at the Global finals in New York, USA in November, 2011. Among other mouth watering prizes, Gbenga will enjoy an all expense paid trip to New York and fully covered feeding and accommodation worth three thousand dollars ($3,000), Four hundred dollars ($400) worth of Executive training on Communications by the Olusola Amusan Company (OAC), an opportunity to contest for the title of the Global Champion with Ten thousand Dollars ($10,000) and gifts from one hundred and fifty (150) EO members.
